24 June 2015 – New and more technologically advanced Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) are being installed in ComfortDelGro’s taxis.
The X-One MDT is an all-in-one system that not only wirelessly connects the booking despatch system to the taxi, it also acts as a built-in taxi meter-cum-payment system, automatically computing the total metered fare and accepting cashless payments as well.
Over 6,000 of such terminals will be installed over the course of the next nine months. The first batch has already been installed in 100 taxis in April this year. The second batch of 1,900 units started the roll out yesterday and should be installed by August 2015. The final batch of 4,400 X-One MDTs will be installed by the first quarter of 2016.
The X-One MDT comes with a higher resolution seven-inch LED display and a more userfriendly interface for cabbies. An on-roof antenna and a better GPS receiver have been added to improve signal coverage and provide more accurate location detection. Unlike its predecessor where two-dimensional graphics are used for navigating, the X-One MDT features three-dimensional landmarks for easy viewing.
